Mount Pleasant estate to have 6,000 HDB flats, up from 5,000 previously announced

The Mount Pleasant estate remains on the location of the Old Police Academy (OPA), close to the Thomson Flyover off the Pan Island Expressway. The OPA was utilized as the training institute for the Singapore Police Force (SPF) till 2005.

Six buildings, which HDB claims were “recognized as the most substantial representations of authorities heritage”, have been preserved and will definitely be integrated into the brand-new estate. Four blocks are going to be repurposed for alternate usages such as an area police post and SPF Heritage Gallery. One block will continue to work as the Senior Policeman’ Mess, while another will be integrated into future projects. Furthermore, the previous OPA parade square will be maintained as public space for community use.

HDB says the “white flat” layout will be offered at Mount Pleasant Crest. Flat investors can select the open-concept layout, which offers a contiguous living and bedroom area without separation surfaces, when they are invited to reserve a flat.

The very first BTO project in the Mount Pleasant estate will be opened as section of the October 2025 BTO exercise. Called Mount Pleasant Crest, it is going to offer around 1,350 units of two-room flexi to four-room flats. There are going to also be 270 units of public rental flats.

According to HDB, the raised supply complies with “further detailed planning studies” and are going to help to match strong housing interest.

Mount Pleasant’s distance to Toa Payoh will also factor into need and prices. “The project may be a Prime BTO as resale flat prices in Toa Payoh are rather high and the older estate has one of the highest numbers of million-dollar resale condos,” Lee adds. Prime lodgings are subject to tighter regulations, such as a 10-year minimum occupation duration and an aid clawback.

This will be the 2nd BTO project to present the white flat layout, after the Crawford Heights BTO project, which released last October. According to HDB, about four in 10 flat customers went with the design at that project.

Four Build-to-Order (BTO) projects are planned for the upcoming Mount Pleasant estate, which will yield around 6,000 new condos upon finish. This is 1,000 greater than the 5,000 units previously released for the 33ha site, HDB says in a Sept 2 press release.

Served by the brand-new Mount Pleasant MRT Station on the Thomson-East Coast Line, Mount Pleasant are going to be a car-lite estate and include Transit Priority Corridors with dedicated bus lanes, larger foot pathways and cycling routes. New roadways, including a major thoroughfare called “Old Police Academy Roadway”, will even be constructed to enhance access. There will even be a protected pedestrian road that attaches the numerous precincts in Mount Pleasant, HDB says.

Lee Sze Teck, leading supervisor of data analytics at Hiuttons Asia, believes the Mount Pleasant Crest project that will be launched for sale in October will attract solid interest, because of its place close to Mount Pleasant MRT Stop and schools such as CHIJ Primary Toa Payoh and Singapore Chinese Girls’ School.

Eugene Lim, key director at ERA Singapore, mentions that the white flat theme at Mount Pleasant Crest might attract more youthful Singaporeans and house owners meaning to do extensive renovations. “A white level typology will give them the alternative to customise their design to cater to their real estate needs, enabling adaptability over the longer term,” he says.
